To mark the Pink Floyd V&A exhibition ‘Their Mortal Remains’, opening on March 15th, and the 30th anniversary of the shoot, Robert Dowling is issuing a signed and numbered limited edition run of 25 A2 archival inkjet prints at £750 each. This is the first time a limited edition has been issued

Photographed on Saunton Sands, Devon, in the summer of1987 by Robert. It was commissioned directly by Pink Floyd Productions. Concept and art direction was by Storm Thorgerson.

Around 1000 beds, mattresses, blankets and sheets were sourced (rumored to be from Government disaster emergency supplies) and packed in two giant trailers.

The day, time and tide height were carefully calculated to wash in and out beneath the beds, without washing them away. An experiment the week before shooting resulted in three iron bedsteads disappearing forever into the Bristol Channel.

At dawn on the day of the shoot the art department began spraying the bed-heads red and making-up the beds complete with mattresses, sheets and billows. Around 40- 50 people were hired from the local labour exchange for positioning to camera. By late afternoon the set was ready. Robert shot 4x5, 6x9, 6x6 and 35mm formats, aided by three assistants, until the light faded at 9.30pm
